Live in babysitter going to NYC

Anonymous
She’s going for 4 days starting Dec . 29. She’s always been careful about Covid and an adult so I don’t feel like I can tell her not to go but I’m worried she’s going to bring Covid home to our family. I’m not in a position to put her up in a hotel either after she comes back.

I have rapid tests at home and wondering if I should ask her to quarantine in our basement? And if so, how long?

If you want to be super cautious, have her stay in the basement and take a PCR when she’s been back 5 days. But she probably has just as high a chance of getting covid waiting for the pcr test…that’s just reality with omicron. So take comfort if your vaxxed and boosted that you will be ok and your kids are either vaxxed or very young and will also be ok.

If you are requiring her to quarantine, I would pay her for that time. ALso, let her know beforehand so she goes into the trip with realistic expectations

Did she bring it home?

If I were your babysitter and you banished me to the basement, I'd quit. The labor market is tilted in the employees' favor right now, just remember that.

This is crazy. We will all catch covid. Move on.

I held off for two years, and I’ve been to both urgent care and er during the last four weeks. It’s not a foregone conclusion, and just because most omicron cases are mild, it doesn’t mean every case is or that someone would catch omicron instead of something else.
