What did your his & hers walk-in closet cost?

Anonymous
Hi, I am trying to see if the quote I received from my closet vendor is fair. How much did your his & hers walk-in closet cost? Both closets are pretty big, but one has a large island, one doesn't, the one with the island is about the size of a secondary bedroom, the other closet without island is narrower but deep. All baseline white shelving, no fancy add ons.

At that point you’re basically buying a kitchen without appliances. The price will be commensurate.

Each one about $2k with Elfa, large but not “island” large that sounds insane and I assume like $20-75k for one of those mansion closet rooms.

Uner $1500 each, but no island. Try Closet Stretchers. Prices are much better (less, but close to Elfa on sale), really nice people to work with and excellent designers. We are both really happy with our closets

under $1500 each closet? really?! Large sized rooms, right? I just looked Closet Stretchers briefly, their walk-in closet designs are similar to the one I looked at, but the quote I got is 10x higher for the two closets. I can't believe it.

If you go with elfa you can pay a very nominal amount extra for installation. Plus the design people at CS will help you design for free. Elfa is 20% off in Jan and February

It sounds like these are bedrooms really, not “closets” as normal people understand them. Building an island would more than double the cost, I assume. I’m the one who estimated $20-75k and obviously I don’t have a closet like that but that’s my educated guess.

Yes, $1280 for mine (larger than my husband's closet).

lol, yes, and I love it. Once, in August, of course when we had company, our main floor A/C unit went out. We put our 2 girls on an airmattress in my closet and our son on an airmattress in my husband's closet, and gave our guests their rooms (my sister and her husband in one kids room, their children, my nieces, in the other kids room). Fortunately the A/C was fixed withing 2 days

I am OP, the "hers" closet looks kinda like this photo (except the room is bigger so there is more space surrounding the island), but for materials and installation, it's very similar to this closet in the photo, the "his" closet is similar but no island. Realistically, how much should they cost?

No walk in. You can get MDF boards at home depot and build it yourself. We built a large closet with shelving for maybe under $100, maybe $150.

That's very different than the $1500 comment. Realistically, in the area, 2 of those closets (one with island, one without island) cost 20k+? For real? Those are not elaborate closets with glass door cabinetry or anything like that. Well, if you are right, then I feel much better about the price quote I got.
