The true meaning of "equity"

Anonymous
A lot of postings over the last few weeks on the 2nd grade AAP pool made me realize that many on this board don't actually know what "equity" means. It is NOT equal treatment for all. It is "right sizing" the treatment based on the needs of the population. (alt+p)

Equity means providing the Title I kids more benefits than the kids from the higher SES schools because the Title I kids theoretically need greater support to have an equal footing as the kids from the SES schools.

Agit-prop, but people see through it and are leaving FCPS in droves rather than put up with the neglect of their kids’ education simply because they are deemed privileged.

Is FCPS working towards Justice at all? Or it’s only Equity their main focus and target?

It’s fine to provide extra supports to some but not at the expense of providing appropriate opportunities for all. That means that some children move faster because they are capable of learning at a higher level. That’s what’s being misunderstood.

But it's still unjust b/c the one on the end is shorter. He will always face more challenges.

You can't see how systemic the oppression is if you think by making the fence see through you have achieved justice. Justice will be achieved when he is compensated for his shortness and then is on equal footing.

I know! I heard that everyone went private and now the schools are empty!

This is nonsense. Without equity there is no justice.

And none of the solutions are fair to the people that paid to watch the game. Removing the "barrier" to accommodate a cheater is not "justice"

Life is Not Fair, otherwise why some people live until 90 and some die young at 30? Life is not fair otherwise why are some people rich and some poor. Life is not fair otherwise why are some people in USA and some in a third world country.
We cant make education fair by lifting the ones that are left behind for whatever reason. Some kids learn at an advanced pace and some kids don’t. Some kids will end up being very successful in life and some kids won’t. Everyone can’t be Jeff Bezos, Obama, Beyoncé or Jennifer Lopez.

I am equality all the way. Forget this equity nonsense

If you weren’t a fool you’d know the declines in FCPS’s enrollment are higher than both other area systems and many other systems of comparable size across the country.

Enjoy the race to the bottom in the name of “equity.”

This was the biggest reason VA in a red now. People don’t want to enjoy the race to the bottom in the name of equity.

So the high achiever receives nothing in order to give more to the lowest achiever? Seems like the direction FCPS is heading in.
