Whole Foods delivering expired food?

Anonymous
Has this happened to anyone? I’m home with Covid so ordering groceries, and got an order delivered 2 nights ago. I just checked today and the package of tortillas I bought expired in NOVEMBER. How does this even happen? Wouldn’t they check for expired food when they restock, and throw out the old stuff every week or so at least? Now I’m glad I didn’t order chicken or other meat.

I've accidentally picked up expired stuff from the grocery store. The shoppers are just getting stuff from the shelves so sounds like you are correct that they have a stocking issue and aren't cycling through products and clearing out things that are expired. Or they just missed the tortillas this time around. I worked at a grocery store in high school and college and it happens. The meat was stacked much more shallow and always had someone assigned to just that duty so it was easier to make sure fresh meat was restocked regularly and old things were thrown out. It wasn't the same with non-perishables. Just send a notification and ask for a refund.

Hope you feel better.

Your tortillas are fine.

Not expired, but I had a Whole Foods delivery that included a visibly very moldy lemon. Not worth the cost.

We ordered from Whole Foods for more than a year, and the accuracy and quality of deliveries depended entirely on whether everyone else was also getting deliveries or going in person to the store. This summer, for example, we never had any problems. At the height of the first wave, we had a lot of issues, mostly substitution and out of stock items, less moldy or expired products (never happened, as far as I can remember, apart from a wilted lettuce).

So if issues continue, it's a sign that more people are taking precautions in view of our double Delta and Omicron wave.

Thanks. I did ask for a refund but I guess I’m just a little… shocked that the date is so far back. I’ve picked stuff up that expired days ago, but 3 weeks seems pretty bad.

These are the “natural” WF brand without a lot of ingredients/preservatives. Are they really ok to eat now when they expired Nov 20?
I’ve smelled them when they were a little bit past date and they started smelling… kind of yeasty.
