Is there any way to get a half filet mignon?

Anonymous
I don’t need a whole one and we are going out of town the week after Christmas. Is there a way to get a smaller one?

Ask the butcher to cut you the size you want.

You can ask a butcher. Another option, although not ideal, is to freeze the other half and defrost when you come back.

Sometimes you can order a ‘petite’ filet. Say 4 or 6 oz

she means a whole one. i would think the butcher could cut you what you need and slice the rest up for sale as steaks.

? At Whole Foods, you can request any size you want.

My butcher will cut it by the pound.

Ask butcher to butterfly it. Save half in freezer bag. Will defrost easily in fridge overnight. Can put bag in bowl of hot water if still little frozen.

Do you mean half a beef tenderloin, from which filet mignon is cut? How could half of an individual portion of steak be so troublesome?

This question is worded poorly.

Do you want half of a filet or do you want half of a tenderloin?

??? Butterflying it means to cut it almost in half lengthwise. Usually you butterfly something so it can be stuffed. I don't think this is what OP wants.

Because I don’t want to buy a whole one. My family won’t eat frozen meat.
