| I don’t need a whole one and we are going out of town the week after Christmas. Is there a way to get a smaller one? |
| Ask the butcher to cut you the size you want. |
| You can ask a butcher. Another option, although not ideal, is to freeze the other half and defrost when you come back. |
| Sometimes you can order a ‘petite’ filet. Say 4 or 6 oz |
| she means a whole one. i would think the butcher could cut you what you need and slice the rest up for sale as steaks. |
| ? At Whole Foods, you can request any size you want. |
| My butcher will cut it by the pound. |
| Ask butcher to butterfly it. Save half in freezer bag. Will defrost easily in fridge overnight. Can put bag in bowl of hot water if still little frozen. |
You win for highest class problem on DCUM. |
| Do you mean half a beef tenderloin, from which filet mignon is cut? How could half of an individual portion of steak be so troublesome? |
|
This question is worded poorly.
Do you want half of a filet or do you want half of a tenderloin? |
??? Butterflying it means to cut it almost in half lengthwise. Usually you butterfly something so it can be stuffed. I don't think this is what OP wants. |
Yes, I mean a 1/2 beef tenderloin. |
Why can’t you just cut one in half? |
Because I don’t want to buy a whole one. My family won’t eat frozen meat. |
