Infants, Toddlers, & Preschoolers

I didn't want to hijack the other thread, but it made me wonder: why put shoes on a baby? Not judging, just asking. I sort of figured that when she starts to walk, then we'll get shoes. Am I missing something? Like when I thought bibs served no purpose for a baby before solid food, then I got the world's spittiest infant.
Thanks, |
| They only need them to protect their feet from the cold -- my dc was born last spring and we didn't put shoes on until November. |
| for us Robeez are the only thing that keep his socks on |
| I posted the Robeez thread, and yes....she pulls her socks off and crawls around and stands so it's to protect her feet from dirt and other things that may be on the ground (and to keep them warm in the winter). Robeez are good because they are soft and flexible so the baby can still feel the ground and it doesn't (theoretically) inhibit their walking or mess with their feet. |
| To keep socks on and to keep their socks clean when they are just learning to walk outside. |

Where do you find these robeez and pediped shoes? Are they the ones in the $40 range at buy buy baby? I just want something affordable and not quite as big and clunky as the ones I got at Payless. Help! (sorry, not trying to hijack)

| I agree with you OP. My DD is 9mo and I still haven't gotten shoes for her. We got socks that stay on, so really didn't need shoes. |
| I read it's better to keep babies feet bare so that they can develop muscles in their feet as they learn to stand and walk. |
If you are looking for something more affordable, get the Bobux from Target. IMO, they are almost as good as the Robeez and fit my son better. Robeez are about $25. |
What socks did you get that stay on? We only use shoes for my 9 month old because he constantly pulls off his socks. |

My daughter PULLS her socks off so it doesn't matter what brand we buy. She's able to yank them off....she's 11 months old.
As I posted in the Robeez thread....the Target ones are fine, but I would rather spend $25 on something that lasts than $10 on something that doesn't....she is pretty small so she doesn't grow out of them fast. If she were a big baby it may be different. She tends to stay in things for several months. |
| i found that the carter's socks with the cuffs stay on better than ones without cuffs especially when DD is trying to pull them off. |

We are just now going to investigate shoes for our 1 year old daughter. She is just starting to learn to walk. As an indoor crawler, I didn't see the reasons for shoes, either. But now that she is about to walk and she'll be outdoors more, it makes more sense.
She does yank her socks off, but it doesn't bother me since we are indoors. When we go out, she is usually wearing a footed coverall so her feet aren't exposed. |
