My brother wants the two of us to go in on a laptop for our mom. Mom wants to be able to browse the web, do word processing and use TurboTax. He found a Chromebook that he thinks looks good, but I'm not sure it is going to run Turbotax properly. I have no experience with Chromebooks, but I gather they are much more limited than a Windows laptop. He says she will be able to run TurboTax in the browser, but I don't think that is going to cut it. My parents have complicated taxes - rental income, business income, and soon there will be retirement income as well. Can TurboTax running in a browser handle all that? And can it pull in previous years' files the way regular TurboTax will?
I don't want to be a Debbie Downer about his gift idea and I would love for my mom to have a new laptop, but I don't know if a Chromebook or its equivalent is going to meet her needs.
