NIPT with Kaiser

Anonymous
Has anybody had NIPT done with Kaiser recently? How long did it take for you to get results? I’m 11w tomorrow and got mine drawn today and am curious what to expect.

I did it in early October! Results came back in five days, which was faster than I expected. The funny thing with Kaiser is you get results automatically before your doctor has time to see/explain them. So my husband and I were like, “‘No Y chromosome detected!’ That means it’s a girl.” You’ll also have a phone appointment with a genetic counselor, which I assume you’ve already scheduled? We talked to ours just before getting results about what different things might mean and what our options would be if we wanted additional testing.

Thanks for your response! I haven’t had an appointment set up with a genetic counselor yet. The last time I had NIPT done with Kaiser, I wound up with abnormal results and they were called to me by the genetic counselor.

I had mine done about a month ago and the results took a week. I received the results via the app. No genetic counselor has been mentioned to me…

Hmm. My OB made the genetic counselor thing seem pretty standard! It was definitely nice to talk to her. Maybe send a message to your doc requesting an appointment?

This. I’m a few years out from our Kaiser experience so I don’t have up-to-date information. But we saw genetic counselor as part of our care. I am an older mother so that might be some thing they automatically do? It was really helpful and assuring to talk through it all in person. I feel like we went shortly after our anatomy scan which is a little further down the road. Agree it’s a great suggestion to call your doctor and request the genetic counseling appointment, and wait for that rather than opening any result emails.

Hi all! Just to update, it took 8 calendar days but I got my results back! Low risk for everything and we’re having a boy

Thanks for the update- I'm currently on day 5 of waiting, so hard!

I also sometimes hate these requirements. I have a PhD in genetics and yet they want me to talk to a genetic counselor lol!
