Anyone else’s Kindergarten kid freaked out by an anti-racism assembly today? My kid needed to sleep with a light on and the door open tonight. Anyone know what specifically was talked about? My kid couldn’t relay much except that she was scared. |
Um. No. |
My second grader said she didn’t understand what it was about. Lots of talking. |
no - what school? |
Janney. |
So a 5yo needed a nightlight bc she were scared at night because of an assembly she couldn't tell you anything about....could she just have been scared of the dark? |
No, she told me she was afraid of the assembly and that it was about white and black people fighting. I had no idea there was an assembly at all until she told me. Trying to figure out what it was about, so I can figure out how to discuss at home. But I will be reaching out to the teacher today to learn more. |
I’m just surprised they had an assembly during COVID. Is this the first time she’s been introduced to these concepts? Seems like a chance to explain racial history and discrimination in your terms, OP. |
It was a virtual assembly. It was not the first time we have talked about racism; but how ever the material presented just made her scared which doesn’t seem like an affective teaching method. |
If only Janney could put the same focus on helping their student body with IEPs that they do on anti-racism. |
Of course DCUM would be the place for complaints about antiracism events. |
Actually very fitting example of the privilege that exists in the Janney community ^. What in the world does an "anti-racism" assembly (still yet to be described in any detail) have to do with the school's SPED team? |
here come the pitchforks |
I absolutely love that OP started a thread about an event at one particular elementary school but didn't name the school. Perfect illustration of Janney arrogance. "If you know, you know." |
I’m embarrassed for OP and Janney. Goodness, you would think a parent could handle this and not have to air her household problem in public. |
