ED/EA acceptances revoked

Anonymous
Anyone have experience with an acceptance being taken away? DS has an acceptance, but is struggling in two classes. Had a 4.0uw up until now. Can hopefully get two B’s out of the classes, but who knows. Both are AP classes so he’s not slacking.

I wouldn’t worry.

I doubt they would do that over Bs, Senior slump is a thing.

I think it is only in the extreme cases, like failing all classes or possibly a criminal issue. I would not worry about some Bs.

avoid Ds and Fs, a couple Bs or Cs isn’t going to hurt

Thank you! This will make him feel much better. He has been really stressing about these two classes.

For real, don’t worry. He has worried enough to get those amazing grades he submitted for ED. Congrats to your hard working son (regardless of the ED result)— he should be feeling wonderful about his accomplishments.

+1, OP I would not worry. Congrats!

Is ED/EA revocation really a thing? Does it actually happen?

Years ago, I took most of my senior year off after getting in early. The acceptance was conditional on graduating with at least a 3.0 and no failing grades and I did just that. It was great having absolutely no pressure before starting college. OP, check the paperwork, there may be specifics on what would allow them to revoke.

Barelyyyy ever. Unless you start switching all your classes to standard and pulling Ds and Fs. Never ever because of Bs.

Is he already in? If not, they may ask for an interim grade report before accepting.

Do not worry. MY DC got in ED to a Top 20 school. In the 3rd quarter, DC's 4.0 GPA dropped to 1.7, which thanks to MoCo averaging appeared as mostly Bs and Cs on the final transcript as DC paid a bit more attention to school in the 4th quarter. College never even asked for an explanation and DC's college grades are excellent.

+1 The only time I heard of this was clusterf**k of bad behavior plus social media posting, an extreme case.
Tell him not to worry.

There was another thread on this and the consensus was the same. Someone said that they knew someone who made a D and the college made them retake the course in summer school, but didn’t revoke the acceptance.

You’re not alone — my 3.9 UW GPA kid is looking at several Bs at this point. Hoping he can bring them up, but senioritis is real.
