Thoughts on this name? Do you think it is overused within the Jewish community? I only say that because I work with a lot of other Jews and I would say Yael is a pretty common name within a certain subset of the Jewish population. However, only 2% of the American population is Jewish so on the flip side of that do you think it's too "foreign"/easily misspelled/mispronounced? (That being said we have two other children who have less common Hebrew names and it has been fine so far.)
All thoughts are welcome though! |
| I think it is beautiful. Agree that it is fairly common. |
| I love it. You might need to tell people who haven't heard it before how to spell it once, but it's very easy to learn and pronounce. And it just sounds beautiful and is pleasing to say. |
| I am not Jewish and I love that name. So pretty. |
| I think it’s a beautiful name. I had a friend in high school named Yael and have such positive associations with it. I do think most Americans wouldn’t know how to pronounce it, but who cares. It’s a great name. |
| LOVE! Not too common in my subset. |
|
Beautiful!
It will be misspelled/mispronounced. |
| How do you pronounce it? I'm guessing not like Yale... |
Yah-elle |
| Love. |
It’s pronounced Yah- ehl |
|
I love it but my (Jewish) DH finds it and some other names too Israeli.
I also don’t know what that means but it made names a ‘no’ for him |
|
Like it!

| Gentile here. I have always loved this name and have also loved every Yael I’ve ever known. Would have been an easy pick for our DD if we were Jewish. |

I have a Yael and we love the name. It's common enough among Jews that nearly all Jews will pronounce it correctly and many non-Jews in heavily Jewish areas know it too. In a Jewish school or summer camp, your child will probably meet at least one other Yael.
A lot of non-Jewish people pronounce it Yale or Yell, and many think it is a boys' name if they only see it on paper. |
