Lately I’ve noticed that my morning coffee (Mr. Coffee drip machine) is tasting watered down almost. The first cup is glorious, but then it’s almost as though the subsequent cups are diluted somehow. They don’t taste nearly as strong.
I’ve tried adding more coffee to the filter, figuring the first cup is super concentrated, but then it’s TOO strong. Also, no matter how much cream I add to subsequent cups, it never changes the color. It stays this dark brown. I don’t need this one n my life right now lol Can anyone tell me what the heck is going on? |
| Have you cleaned your machine lately? |
| Does your machine need to be descaled? I only have an espresso maker, so maybe that’s not a thing with coffee makers. |
Do you mean the basket and carafe, or like have I run a cleaning through the pipes, so to speak? Yes to the former, no to the second. It never even crossed my mind! Off to do this now! |
Use the correct product, don't do something like run a dawn load! |

First question: are you taking the first cup before it’s finished brewing? If so, that’s your problem.
Second: you need to clean you machine. Put some white vinegar in the water reservoir then fill the rest with cold water. Run the machine on brew. It will smell a bit, but will clean the guts of your machine well. |
+1. Clean the machine and don’t take your first cup until the whole pot is brewed. If the cup is weaker than you prefer, put an extra scoop of coffee in the basket. |
Op here: So the beep telling me a cup is ready, I should ignore that? |
This. I stop the cycle with vinegar mid way and let it sit there for 10-15 minutes to clean the "guts" of the machine. I then run with water until it no longer smells like vinegar-usually 3-4 cycles. |
I don't understand. How big is your coffee maker (how many cups?) and do you not wait until it's completely finished brewing? You need to wait until it's completely done. Otherwise, first cup will be too strong, following cups will be too light. Are you a new coffee drinker? |
|
This doesn't make sense.
Clearly the volume of water has traveled through the system and through the coffee. The system isnt a problem, for some reason you seem to be having a mixing problem. Stir the pot of coffee with a spoon first before drinking. Wait until the entire thing brews and then stir. |
| Are you making a pot of coffee or one cup at a time? |
Yes. |

I need more information. Are you brewing one cup at a time or a pot. What do you mean the coffee does not change color when you add creamer? That seems impossible if you are stirring.
I wonder if you are getting reflux from the first cup and it is effecting your taste buds. |
