Holiday Gift Cards for Teachers?

Anonymous
Hi!

I have a 6th grader who has 6 subject area teachers. How much do you usually give around he holidays for appreciation gifts?

Thanks!

Just the homeroom teacher and/or a favorite teacher

I have to plug my kid’s elementary school PA, who collects anonymous donations and distributes them equitably among all the teachers from the janitor to the HOS. I quickly donate online and all the gifts are covered (kids can make cards but are told not to do additional gifts). Too late for this year, but would recommend it to all PAs.

I have one kid in public and one in private. Our public does something similar — anonymous class gift, anonymous group specials.

I wish ours did this!

Not OP but also would love to know. How much should we get a gift card for? Only planning to gift DC's homeroom teacher.

I teach secondary classes (albeit at an UMC public school). Generally when I get gift cards they are for $10. I usually get around 3-5 from a roster of 150 kids. I get a lot of cards, a lot of little trinkets from kids like a bag of cookies or a box of candy or a bottle of lotion from B&BW. Probably a total of 15 gifts.

Gift giving drops off immensely when students move up to having multiple teachers.

I get $25 Target or Amazon gift cards for the elementary home room teachers and teaching assistants.

I'd love to hear more about what are standard or typical gifts for homeroom teachers. my K child is new to the school and i don't want to inadvertently do too little or way too much.

I'm sure it depends on the school, but most gifts I receive are $20 or $25

With everything teachers have done in the past 20 months (especially in private schools that stayed open most of last year), I plan to stretch this year to $20-$25/teacher. It’s not easy and there are teacher shortages so I’m thankful for the professionals in the classroom.

We let them pick their two favorite teachers, and three if they have a year with several rock star teachers, which we did this year.

At our school you give to the main teacher and you also give a second time so the rest of the staff get something. It’s sll divided up. So we give 100 to each child’s main teacher and 100 to support staff. With 2 kids it’s 400 all together.
