GW vs WHC

Anonymous
Currently am with GW MFA. However my main issue is it’s a pain to drive and park there, it’s super busy and feels disorganized, impersonal and like a factory.

I switched from my last birth at WHC mainly because I was changing from their midwives and wanted an OB. Now I am less sure on all fronts; midwives vs OB or which hospital. My labors also tend to be fast so I’m worried about being stuck in traffic, or even worse, unable to get a room at all since this practice is insanely busy.

Otherwise I don’t love WHC either, but there are no other options.

Any recs? Already am 28 weeks. Slightly high risk (age, gestational diabetes).

Are you sure WHC could take you? I know they were at capacity a few months ago. That may make your decision for you.

They were at capacity where? Whose office? Midwives? OBs?

So, GW MFA has two offices. One is on M Street, and one is by the Foggy Bottom metro. The Foggy Bottom location has a parking garage underneath- I've never had a problem finding a spot there. I also have AMA and GD, and I feel like the MFMs are very up to date on the current research.

They also have a Bethesda office, which is small, run pretty well, and feels a lot less hectic and impersonal than the main location.

I was just going to say this! I had two babies at GW and had great experiences, but I almost exclusively used the Bethesda and M Street locations. SO much quieter and less hectic.

Park at Whole Foods. Go to your appointment. Go into WF and spend $10 on something you need. Done and done.

Who did you see there? I have seen two docs there and didn’t love either. But also they don’t do NSTs and I need several.

Bethesda does NSTs. I've had one there. They have a room dedicated to them.

I see midwives so can't comment on the drs. Pre-covid the midwives used to all rotate but I think only 2 work in Bethesda these days.

Haha yeah that's if you can get in and out of that office in 90 minutes. Which wasn't the case the other day!

They would not schedule me there for them, I asked. I don't know why. Their scheduling is still a total cluster from the system change though

GW has been terrible for me. Every appointment has been messed up. When I showed up for an appointment I was told my ultrasound was double booked and I could not be seen. My last appointment was cancelled the day before I was supposed to have it and I was told it was “a fake appointment that never existed.” I’ve been going to the Betheada location and the front desk lady is extremely rude and the wait times are long. I’ve been trying to leave but can’t get my medical records! Would not recommend.

Just switch to DeSouza. He’s part of the MFA but delivers the majority of his babies at Sibley. His office staff is incredible. All my appointments were on time and easy. I never had an issue with scheduling and never was on hold for more than a few minutes. After my first at GW it was a breath of fresh air.
