Rome to Milan train

I am supposed to go to Milan in January and was thinking of doing three days before I need to be in Milan in Rome. Anyone taken the high speed train from Rome to Milan? It says it is around 3 hours. Booking a one way seems to be a little confusing so any info is appreciated. Thanks.

That's the main train company. Most options.

That's the upstart competition. Good service, fast trains. I'd take whichever was cheaper or had a better schedule for your needs.

We are thinking of taking the train from Milan to Rome (and back) for 2-3 days in late March. Is that crazy given it's a Jubilee year? We have not been to Rome and don't know when we'll be back to Italy and think the kids would love to see the Colosseum and Forum. However, if the crowds and the logistics are going to be too exhausting-- we might just stay in the Milan area.

I wouldn't go Easter week, but March should not be that big a deal if you book ahead and treat yourself to private/after hours/skip-the-line tours. Don't delay though because March is right around the corner, and the options will get scarcer and more expensive.

Download the Omio app. There's often multiple companies, you can view the schedule and book your tickets through the app.

Always book direct with the train company. As stated above, the two options in Italy are Trenitalia (the national rail company), and Italo, a private company that serves the main cities.

It's a Jubilee year so Rome will be unusually crowded. Book everything asap.

Even if you're booking directly Omio gives you the listings for all the trains. You can still go to the kiosk of the company you want to book with.
