What dog breed almost guaranteed not to be aggressive?

Anonymous
Please note I said almost- I realize all animals could be.

Golden. Well, most goldens except around food. Some tend to be food reactive.
If you and your DH are not into some power dominance crap, goldens are the best dogs ever.

There is no dog breed guaranteed not to be aggressive. Your best bet is to adopt a dog who has been fostered in a home environment similar to yours, so you know how that dog's personality is expressed in that environment.

Thanks. What do you mean about me and DH and being into power dominance? We aren't but I'm confused

Goldens are high strung as puppies. My Dh had dogs and liked to "wrestle" with the puppy! Moron. So, the puppy would start growling, and DH would try to "dominate" him. That is a separate issue from the food reactivity issue, which can be worked on early.
Anyway, the puppy would get all snarly with DH, and then DH would get all aggressive(not physically) with the puppy! I realized that my DH is a moron who had dogs but knew nothing about training and behaving around the dog. It is true that owners are always to blame. It took me a while to get rid of this habit that he created in an otherwise wonderful dog.
Guess what pack animals do? Assert their dominance, no? All that was needed was turning my back on the dog and not giving him a time of the day. Not that any of it would have happened in the first place if I didn't marry a person who is an idiot around dogs.

The only cocker spaniel I knew as a kid was nippy

I agree that no breed is 💯 guaranteed to not bite. I would go with a well bred golden as they should have a soft mouth and a good disposition. The key is well bred as I have encountered bad goldens.

I think probably golden retrievers or other retrievers. I never had such a sweet dog and I've had many.

but most dogs are very sweet and loving. Pit bulls seem to be the exception and provide a massive danger to members of the household.

Yeah we loved our cocker spaniel, but he had the occasional rage issue. It's like he would completely lose control and attack us over random things. The only reason he wasn't put down was because he was smaller and easy to control. We were stupid and got him from a pet store though so probably bad breeding. He died at 10 from heart problems.

I grew up with Springer Spaniels and those dogs were amazing, I'll also second cavaliers if you want a less sporty dog. There are also many hounds and setters that are great happy dogs. Basically, most hunting dogs were bred to be easy to work with and people pleasers.
