Food, Cooking, and Restaurants
| Is there a lot of take-out food in DC? We're moving from NYC, and I'm used to cooking some nights and ordering in take-out the other nights. Will I have to cook every night if we move to NW DC -- say, Tenleytown or Cleveland Park? tia |

You aren't moving to a small town in Kansas. We have takeout food here. We also all have indoor plumbing.
Some is (on average) better than NYC: Ethiopian, Kabobs, peruvian and mexican. Some is (on average) worse: chinese. |
| (I didn't mean to dis kansas about the indoor plumbing... sorry - hit send too soon. I know that midwesterners have plumbing! used to be one!) |
| Ya gotta love these NYC people! You're moving to the nation's CAPITAL... of course there's takeout here! This reminds me of my Manhattan friend who has visiting me years ago and was worried that he wouldn't be able to get a Sunday New York Times here. |
| There's no take-out whatsoever in NW. |
| What's this "take out" of which you speak? |
Kind of a strange question from someone who is so worldly as to be from NYC. Hmmm... maybe not so worldly after all.

Hi OP,
You can check out TakeOut Taxi or the other delivery services to see which restaurants deliver to those neighborhoods. I live in Georgetown, and there really aren't any take out places except for Tackle Box, which is mediocre. There are some (bad) pizza delivery places, one decent Chinese place, one okay Turkish place, one overrated sushi place, one pricey but great Indian place - you get the point. Not like NY, but you can pick and choose and get decent food. |
| Tenleytown has your basic Indian, Mexican, Thai, pizza, etc etc restaurants that will either deliver or you can go pick it up (not all will deliver). Cleveland Park has a similar range of options. Agree that Chinese in the area (there are a couple of options in Van Ness, which is between Tenleytown and Cleveland Park) is not nearly as good as NYC. |
But then call the restaurant directly if you can. TakeOut Taxi tacks on extra fees - it can get pricey. I'm often able to just order through the restaurant and cut out the middle man. |
