We won’t be able to travel to a friend’s house due to illness on their end. Any idea where I might be able to get a small turkey or a breast for my family of 3 at this late hour? Live in NW DC but can drive. Thanks.
Just about every grocery store has a turkey breast: Wegmans for sure.
Any grocery store
Liberty bbq in Arlington still has smoked turkeys.
Thank you!
Just buy a fresh, not frozen, turkey, box of turkey bags, disposable tray with handles, and cornstarch for gravey. Follow directions on bag box. Be sure to first pull out the bags of organs inside the turkey and toss. To make gravy, pour juice into small pain, bring to boil, add 1/2 cup cold water with 2+ spoons of cornstarch mixed in that water. whisk bubbling. It's not too hard. Butterball is best brand. Shadybrook farms is my least favorite.
Turkey is done when it starts to get golden generally, and drumsticks start stretching away from body.

I'm sorry your friends re sick OP! One year we started our drive to the in-laws on Wednesday and the dog wouldn't stop barking, our newborn wouldn't stop screaming, the traffic was terrible and 15 minutes in I just looked at my husband and said "I can't do this." So we bailed, bought a turkey at Trader Joe's, and it was one of the best Thanksgivings we ever had. I hope yours turns out equally fun even if it's not what you expected. |
Costco actually has a Thanksgiving pre-packaged meal for about 26 or so dollars. It looks like it would feed 3-4 adults. It includes turkey, mashed potatoes, green beans, cranberry sauce, gravy mix, and stuffing. I usually cook the whole meal from scratch but wasn't in the mood this year, so I decided to go to the Costco route. I've heard good things about it.
We did the same. Then one year we were living out of town and did it again. Over the years we’d find reasons to do it solo occasionally. Now it’s just our tradition. |
