Infertility Support and Discussion
| I had my Day 13 bw & us and they found only one maturing follicle and it measured only 13mm. Should I be worried? I thought I was supposed to have several maturing follicles and they were supposed to be bigger by now.... |
|
what did the docor/u/sound tech say?
it seems a bit small for day 13. are you doing ivf or iui? |
| Did the doctor/nurse say anthing to you on previous days of monitoring? Did you have more follicles on previous days? Are you taking injectibles or Clomid? If you are taking injectibles, I'd ask to talk to your RE about your progress. |
| I am doing IUI...I just got off the phone with my nurse and she said that it is a bit small, but for IUI all they want is one good follie....so I'm headed back on Saturday for another round of us & bw. I'm totally nervous b/c we were debating b/w doing IVF or IUI--now I'm thinking we should've gone with IVF. Too late now.....crossing my fingers that it gets bigger. I was on 100 mg of clomid. |
|
that makes a lot more sense now that you say you are doing Clomid.
Good luck with the IUI!!! |
| Is this your first IUI? You're on a pretty low dose of stims, so it sounds like you'll just need to up them next time, or perhaps start stimming sooner in your cycle. Frustrating that you didn't get more this cycle, but not uncommon. |
It's much better to start off slowly with clomid, then to give you a huge dose and then overstimulate, which would also negate this cycle. I know it's hard to wait, but they will find the right dose for you, and take it from me, it will work! |
|
It is very possible to get pregnant with just one follicle. Maybe they should increase your dose for a day or two. The rate you are going, you will hit the minimum 17mm size in 2-3 days, which is still acceptable. 1 follicle is much better than too many for an IUI unless you have the option convert to IVF mid-cycle. Some insurances won't allow it.
Next time - a higher dose or a combo of clomid and injectibles will help. |

OP here--thanks for all of your answers. I feel a little bit better about only having one small one. We are paying for EVERYTHING out of pocket (thank you insurance company) so we just want to make sure we are going the most efficient way. Hopefully when I go back on Saturday they will tell me that it's gotten bigger and I'll be ready to trigger.
What would you all do--if this doesn't work--if you had to pay for everything....should we continue and do another IUI or just go straight for IVF? |
|
Since this is your first IUI, it is hard to determine how you will repsond the medications. Now they know that you need a slightly higher dose of meds.
If your insurance company will pay for injectables (many won't), I would definitely try that with an IUI before doing an IVF. And, if for any reason you over stimulate 9in which case you can't do an IUI) you can convert your cycle to an IVF. I was doing ok with just clomid, but switched to injectables and it worked (not so lucky 2nd time around, though!). |

I would go directly to IVF (no IUI with injectibles) after doing a few IUI/Clomid cyles. Obviously you'll get anecdotes about people getting pregnant off IUI w/injectibles - but a randomized study showed that women get pregnant faster and spend less money when they skip that step. Good luck -- sorry you have no insurance coverage. I was in the same position. It sucks!!!
