New parents please learn the drop -off rules. You are going to hit a kid! |
You need to elaborate. Honestly drop off can be confusing. We go to a different school where elem and middle school are near each other, and I thought for a long time I would pass one to get to the pickup line of the other, but realized eventually that everyone keeps a single line without passing for both schools. No signage. So what is the issue you are seeing? There should be way way fewer drop offs now than in years past. |
It's always been bad. They should block off the Hayes parking lot during drop off/pick up hours.
|
What drop off rules? |
Hard to see how they could hit a kid. The drop off is on sidewalk adjacent to school, and the school parking lot/crosswalk is blocked by barriers. Was someone driving into the bus loop? Riding on sidewalk? |
Pulling in and out around cars. Parking in drop off. Just read the rules. |
Kids should not be exiting on the road side. So pulling out won’t matter. Parking is annoying and will get you a ticket. |
The thing about ASFS is that most kids come from within a 2 mile radius. Why do all these slightly overweight parents feel they need a car to drop off their kids instead of walking or bicycling? |
A four mile walk for someone with a job is a LONG break from work. |
If you think there is a persistent safety issue, contact the school with details. A vague and anonymous post here isn't going to help anything. |
As it gets colder, some kids/parents that walk from a little further away probably would rather drive and haven't experienced drop off before. We only live a few blocks away and my kid complains about walking sometimes in the cold. I just remind him how it feels to stand and wait for a bus instead. |
Um, maybe the parents have to go to work? |
+1. If it's a real safety concern and you think someone is going to get injured, actually do something about it. Some parents at TJ middle school witnessed multiple near accidents a few years ago and did their own patrolling until Arlington County installed a much needed STOP sign. It can be done, but it takes effort. But if this is a real issue, make the effort. You could save a kids' life. |
The kids that are furthest from ASFS live about 0.7 miles from school (not 2 miles). It has different boundaries than last year. They used to encourage everyone who was bus eligible to ride the bus because the streets around ASFS are very narrow/etc and it doesn't work if everyone drives. I think maybe people avoiding the bus due to COVID + the cold weather making some walkers get driven are probably what's causing the issue. Either way the title of this thread is stupid, as is the original post. I understand venting, but maybe having something more descriptive next time. |
