Are the APS high schools having problems with increased violence?

Anonymous
A friend in another school district says that several of the high schools there have had a marked increase in violence since the pandemic started. Or I guess since the kids have come back in person. Fist fights and guns being taken to school. Are we having the same problem in APS?

Is this the latest “issue” for openschool groups?

APS recently decided to remove all in-house School Resource officers (campus security/police detailed to the schools), so it will depend on the school administration. The school district is less likely to publicize any problems. Schools like to handle disciplinary matters in-house when possible.

After reading here about all the issues, I asked my W-L student (11th grade) how it was going. She says she isn't aware of any fights or more disruptive students. She says everyone she knows is just really happy to be back in school.

Two teens were held up by gunpoint at 3:20 pm in W-L zone by 5 teens. Not sure if these teens (who were apprehended waiting for Metro--one facing several felonies) were APS students. Not likely. That said we have had a spike in crime and vandalism in the same area.

This isn't really relevant. This only involved WL students and not on campus.
