I have not been to Reagan National since construction started. If I have to pickup someone there, is there a cell phone lot waiting area? I guess I have to park if passengers get delayed? |
I always park in the Roaches Run parking area to wait, to the right off the parkway immediately north of the airport. Here's a link to the location on Google Maps: https://goo.gl/maps/3oZPPhFHUzz3srxT9 When your arriving passenger calls your cell, you're two minutes away and don't have to mess with the official airport lots. |
Have driven past there many times and never really noticed it. Thanks for the tip! |
The lot attached to the terminal has the first 40 minutes free parking bc the cell phone lot is closed. |
Good call, that's where you see many black car drivers waiting as well, for the same reasons. I don't think Uber/Lyft drivers can wait there, they have to be in a certain spot to be in the airport pickup pool. |
It's easy to miss the turn off, so keep your eye peeled as you approach the airport. There's a brown National Park Service "Roaches Run" sign and then the entrance is immediately after that. Lots of limos hang out there. |
Was there last night and terminal B/C pickup was an absolute zoo - you won't need the cell phone lot because it'll take you 45 minutes just to get to the pickup area.
Much better idea to have your pickup meet on the departures level instead of arrivals. Nearly empty. |
Solid advice. Yes, as National is almost exclusively a domestic airport, and domestic travel is booming now, it is getting crazy busy. Apparently the security lines (including Terminal A, so not just because of the new setup in B/C) have been much much longer than usual this week. |
Thanks for the advise. I am assuming today and tomorrow will be a zoo also. Picking up at departures level is a good idea. |
Should I pickup people on Sunday in departures also? Or would departures on Sunday be busier than arrivals? |
After around 10 AM departures generally less busy than arrivals. Cars spend a lot.less time.at departures area- pull up, hop out, grab bags, go. On arrivals level there's a lot more driving slow looking for someone, finding a spot to meet and pull over, driving around multiple times, etc. So backups much more common on arrivals level even when people in/out is similar. |
. We always do pickups on departures level regard day. Never as crazy as arrivals |
