| I am a novice sushi-maker and would like to give it another try. Is there a place that sells all the ingredients including fish that you recommend? |
| No idea about local fish sourcing, but I got the family a sushi maker for Christmas. I’m hoping it makes the process a lot easier. |

HMart but if that’s confusing for you to navigate, Whole Foods or even Giant. You need a mat, plastic wrap, Nishiki brand short-grained rice, seasoned rice vinegar (or you can make it yourself with plain rice vinegar, salt and sugar), Nori seaweed sheets, and fillings.
Use a rice cooker to make rice, then season the warm rice a little with the vinegar. Let it cool. Start with vegetables, smoked salmon and cream cheese, cooked shrimp, fresh good-quality salmon or tuna. Watch a YouTube video, it’s easy. |
you have to be very careful with the raw fish. My sibling makes sushi all the time, but they usually go fishing and eat the raw fish there or within a day. I thinks starting off with store bought smoked salmon or cooked shrimp is a good idea. There is also a sushi rice vinegar, or as pp stated, make it yourself. |
| I get sashimi grade fish and roe from Hmart when I want to do something special. Other times I make spicy (cooked) salmon using Japanese mayo and shichimi togarashi (a spice) with cucumbers, or avocado. Fun and easy! |

I hired a sushi chef to come give my DH lessons for his birthday. I think the guy came over three times and they went to buy fish together once.
Ask at your favorite sushi place if they'll give lessons. |
| Lessons! and sushi party! good idea! |
| You can buy frozen sushi grade fish at Asian markets. Hana in DC sells it if you can’t get to the burbs |
| H Mart |

I make sashimi.
That way I don't have to deal with perfecting the rice. I garnish w shiso, daikon & seaweed. |
| Years ago I used to buy sushi fish from a Japanese store in Bethesda called Hinata. I now get it from Wegmans. |
Why change? |
I don’t live in Bethesda anymore?
|
| The rice is the hard part. |
Oh man, I really want to do this for my family! |
