| Komi is/was our go to celebration dinner but it seems like they are not going to reopen. Any recommendations for something similar? What I loved about it: atmosphere (felt nice but not stuffy), great wine list that was still approachable, no ordering (this is a big plus for me), and, of course, always amazing food. I’m not looking for Greek necessarily, just something similar in quality and ambiance. |
| Maydan would be the closest, I think. |

That’s too bad about Komi— I agree I loved both the food and how warm/unstuffy the service was.
Here are some options (sorry I don’t know wine list well)— Rooster and owl — probably comes closest to the “feel” of Komi in service and food. Menu is pretty limited but if there are just two of you you will have some choices (for four people it’s easy to just order one of everything). Cranes— really excellent meal, service not quite as good or warm, does have an omakase menu Maydan — very good food, good service, has a set menu (with maybe one choice) maybe a notch below the others but definitely worth trying (maybe the best to try at home if you are covid cautious) Haven’t checked out (in person at least) some of the newer places like Anju or Albi. There’s also Rose’s Luxury, which has good food and service, but the no reservation thing makes it hard for a celebration. Congrats on whatever you are celebrating. |

OP here!
we’ve done Maydan as takeout but not yet in person, so that could be a good choice! Rooster and Owl— going this weekend! Cranes— went for Veteran’s Day lunch since we were both off and got the omakase meal. It was good but not great. Some of the proportions seemed off to me. Rose’s— love the feel but the food seems just okay to me. I think Pineapple and Pearls is what I’m looking for but sadly I don’t think they are going to reopen either. I realize this sounds like we are very fancy people but this is just belated pandemic celebrations. I will add Anju and Albi to the list. |
| I think you would love Masseria. You can sit at a chef's table or in the restaurant. The food is wonderful and the atmosphere is casually chic. |

I have wanted to try Masseria and almost suggested it even though I have never been but tbh I have tried contacting the restaurant two or three times about reservations and each time they were so unhelpful verging on rude (both on the phone and by email) I stopped trying to go. |
| OP again! Masseria is wonderful and I had honestly kind of forgotten about it, so this is a great reminder. I love the casual chic feel of it. I think we might have a winner! |

Sorry, Maydan does not have the feel of Komi at all.

I was at Rooster and Owl last week and agree with the others- I really enjoyed it. You might also enjoy Kinship, The Dabney.. I went to inn at little Washington this year and they are opening a new place across the street that looks cool.
Ilili just opened at the Wharf.. maybe not exactly what you’re looking for but I love the one in NYC. |
| The Dabney and Metier (Kinship’s set price menu downstairs) are good options. |
| mini bar |
| Bresca |
| Bummer about Komi. I loved that place. Why aren't they reopening. Is he doing a different restaurant instead. |
Pineapple and Pearls is definitely reopening. |
