How often are you nursing your 14 month old?

I’m just trying to get an idea of what’s normal. Anyone still nursing a 14 month old on demand? I work from home and both DH and our nanny think I’m breastfeeding her too much and it’s interfering with her eating solids.

Thanks!

I did 2ce a day then. But i was out of the house. An occasional pre nap nurse. But my kids only nursed for comfort and not food after that age.

If you’re still nursing on demand at 14 months, you’re in for a world of hurt, OP! Your husband and nanny are correct - you have to start nursing on a strict schedule and no more than three times a day. Your toddler needs food.

Twice a day for me as well — I stopped nursing on demand around 10 months when my kid went to daycare and actually found she was much happier with the schedule (and got more interested in solids). I was expecting a lot more drama about the transition but it worked out really smoothly for us.

2x/day, and a cup of cow milk before nap (1 nap).

Nursed morning and night, plus a cup of pumped milk with lunch and dinner.

On demand. But, it wasn't interfering with eating table foods.

OP here. Did your child wean on their own when ready? And did you offer solids first before nursing? FTM here and I was told to nurse as long as the child wanted and when she wanted until he/she decides he/she is done.

I don’t really know what nursing a 14 month old on demand means. When my son was 14 months I nursed him 4 times per day. Once at wake up, once before each nap, and once at bedtime. At 15 months I cut his nap feedings out and got him down to 2x per day. At 16 months I fully weaned him.

Was this advice from your pediatrician?

At 12 months on the ped's advice I dropped to morning and evening feeds. Weaned at 14 months and it was glorious.

The pediatrician never said anything about it. I just heard from other women that they wean on their own when they’re ready.

I only nursed one kid that long and it was 7am, before nap, and before bed. Each month after that I cut a feeding with before bed being the last to go.
