Favorite Middle Eastern Cookbook?

Anonymous
Looking for a recommendation for a great Middle Eastern Cookbook; ideally somewhat practical, as it's for a mom of 3 so doesn't have all the time in the world. Thanks!

My absolute favorite is The Arabian Delights Cookbook by Weiss-Arrmush.

Here is a place that has a used one available.

While great, I do not suggest this if your goal is efficiency. These recipes are time consuming and have ingredients you likely will have to search several stores for.

I like this one for the sake of good food, fairly simple recipes and ingredients, and written in an easy to understand and entertaining way.

DP who loves all the Ottolenghi cookbooks. This one is the most accessible for those pressed for time, and everything I’ve tried from it has been great: https://www.amazon.com/Ottolenghi-Test-Kitchen-Recipes-Cookbook/dp/0593234367/ref=tmm_pap_swatch_0?_encoding=UTF8&qid=&sr=

I do like Sami Tamimi’s books and like his collaboration with Ottolenghi (Jerusalem) .. but you might want to try:

We love Milk Street Tuesday Nights for quick & easy (and yummy) meals. We haven’t tried the Mediterranean one, but I’d like to.

Mediterranean isn’t exactly the same as Middle Eastern.

I love Jerusalem, but it is not an accessible cookbook for quick weeknight meals.

Rose water and Orange Blossoms by Abood is a good option.

If you want authentic, original, Claudia Rosen is the real deal.

A lot of middle eastern food is Mediterranean. Just google “Mediterranean countries” and you will see many countries from the Middle East.

I would not call Ottolenghi Middle Eastern. Influenced by Middle Eastern/Levant cooking? Yes, but it's very fusion. You might even call it more more modern Israeli than Midde Eastern.

For a great cookbook writer covering the Arabic world, Claudia Roden is probably my favorite.
