Child's SAT is 1380, applying to a test optional school where the 25-75% range, as reported for enrolled students on the Common Data Set for 2020-2021 is,1290-1430. This makes it seem like a yes to send.
However, the school's website provides scores for admitted students: SAT EBRW: 670-750 SAT Math: 680-780 My child's EBRW is 660. Math is 720. The English score makes it seem like a no. What to do? |

Send, no question.
Notice the difference in ranges doesn't appear to make sense. That is because the Common Data Set shows data for enrolled students for the class of 2024, whereas the ranges you found on the school's website are for admitted students in the class of 2025. Schools like to post admitted student data because it is higher than data for enrolled students, so they seem more selective. Second, also notice that class of 2025 was test optional, so score ranges will skew dramatically higher than in past years, quite inaccurate for trying to determine whether to submit. Go back to the school's Common Data Set, where you found the composite range, and look at the section score ranges there. I bet your kid's scores are smack in the middle and/or somewhat toward the higher side. |
I forgot to add, the Common Data Set 2020-21 is class of 2024, i.e., not test optional. |
| Thanks all for the advice. So hard to know what to do so this is helpful. |
| Send. My son has the same score but flipped, got into his top match school even though it was slightly under the median. |
