How's the food?

Can any moms out there that delivered at INOVA Alexandria tell me how the food is these days? Just curious.

I delivered there 3 years ago and it sucked. Watery eggs, crappy blueberry muffins (I hate blueberry). But you know what? I was so hungry after giving birth I ate every bite! I guess you could always have someone bring you food in if you want.

Ditto the PP. Especially if you deliver late in the day. My son was born around 7 PM and by the time I got to my room the only food option was a "box lunch" that consisted of a horrible turkey sandwich, chips--kinda like the bad lunches at my jr. high school.

Def. something to ask about when you take your hospital tour. And make sure your husband or whoever knows where the local take out places are.

I have not delivered there yet, but plan to. Everyone has said that you should plan on having your husband or family/friends take care of bringing outside food! Apparently the food righteously sucks as the other poster mentioned.

I delivered there in Jan 05 and the food was pretty bad...but like the other poster said...you get hungry and you eat some. They DO give you a menu to pick and choose which options you want for the meals, which was better than nothing.

My husband often went out to get food around the area...and there's plenty....including a Five Guys and Valentinos (yummy pizza). My DH also grabbed me other food from the cafeteria...which seemed "fresher" and better than the tray food.

He went to the grocery and got me yogurts and water and stuff...(It was January so we stuck them in a bag out the window to keep cool, but there IS a fridge you can use).

It's only a few days...and you'll get thru it.

On a related note, at Alexandria, make sure you circle everything you want on the menu...they only bring you what you circle. I only circled special k...they didn't even bring milk. Emotional and starving, I started crying. It took an hour to get another tray...they were late to begin with, so I think it was almost lunch time. Bring some snacks!

Oh, and if your DH or whoever isn't familiar with that area, make a point to drive around and point out where restaurants, etc. are beforehand--there's nothing right by the hospital, and my husband is so horrible with directions, etc. that he ended up just going back to Pentagon City area where we lived to get stuff. it took FOREVER.
There is some stuff fairly close, off Rte 7 if I remember correctly, but you have to know how to get there.

i delivered at INOVA Fairfax 11/06 and thought the food was GREAT! i remember having to control myself and not eat everything and anything they brought me!

5 minutes away is a Chinese food place and around the corner on Duke is tons of stuff-Panera, ZPizza, a Burrito place
