| DS is in center AAP 4-th grade class. He got 16 3's and 28 4's this quarter (in person), while only a few 3's last year (virtual). Anyone else observed the same? |
| Huh? It's a different year. Of course his grades aren't the same. What's your question? |
|
How many categories did they have to grade? And your worried because your kid has 3’s and 4’s but not enough 3’s? During the first quarter with a different Teacher then last year.
Chill out. |
| 3s and 4s are good OP, relax. |
| he only got a few 3's last year from q1 to q4, the rest are all 4's, but this q1 more 3's and less 4's. |
| Last year May be the grading was not that strict. This year the expectation of teachers are high and so it’s harder to get 4’s. - this is from what I understand. My son also got many 3’s this year compared to last year when he was virtual. |
| Is he concerned about it? Or just you? |
I was pleased w/ DSs (4th grade, AAP) report card and didn’t think to tally the 3&4s but just went back and looked. He has 25 4’s and 17 3’s and I was very happy to see that he’s working hard and doing well. Yes, they were more lenient on grading virtually last year, but who cares? All 3s and 4s is an excellent report card. |
Great to see confirmation, that was what I was thinking as well.

This was also true of my kids. Straight 4s last year, a mix this year. I'm not complaining about the further rigor. |
| Our grades are better this year in person but I think it varies depending on teacher. 3's and 4's are great in my opinion. |
I agree with this. Sometimes a teacher is good, sometimes they aren't. Sometimes, if grades are way off from what's expected, it just means the teacher isn't that good. They think they're looking for that "something special," when they're really looking for someone who's like themselves, meaning someone who's not too bright at all. Our DC complained to us that their teacher last year was way better than their teacher this year, and that their teacher this year just tells them what to do and doesn't let them think for themselves. If your kid is doing well but their grades seem to show the opposite, that could be an explanation. Or, like some other people have said, it could just be no big deal. |
| I decided not to care about grades this year because the year has been so bad. The team is a total disaster. And the workload is far too high. |
| I also think it's the difference between 3rd and 4th grade. I have older kids and I think teachers become a little tougher as kids get older. (In the beginning anyway. By the end of the year, everyone has all 4s.) |
| Some teachers are not objective and they give lower grades to show improvement. My DC (also LIV) got all 100% (all Cs/4s) on all tests and assignments, but got many 3s. I asked the teacher and she told me that DC is not "above and beyond". |
