FAFSA Q

Trying to fill out FAFSA and finding it confusing regarding retirement contributions. DH is Dept of Defense, and only listing on W2 under Box 12 is health contribution (DD). FAFSA says to enter Box 12 non-health, but I think one of the letters in Box 14 (there are 4 amounts in that box) is retirement, but I can find nothing when I google about Box 14. I am self employed and contributed a set amount to an independent account. Do, I just enter what I contributed? Or, do I keep searching for meaning of Box 14 letters? Does Dept of Defense use the same letter codes in Box 14 as should be in Box 12? Is there some special reason DOD does not report in Box 12?

OP, I just filled it out the best I could. As long as you report the income, I think that is most important. I did not spend a lot of time trying to figure out some of the nonsensical boxes. I had to complete for twins at different institutions. Both forms were accepted and processed.
