Do I need to continue my prenatals and Omega-3s post- pregnancy...through breastfeeding? just wondering! thanks! |
I am taking my prenatals through breastfeeding. Omega3s I quit upon delivering the baby. |
I still am plus I have added extra calcium. |
YES. You need them throughout breastfeeding, it's a huge demand on your body. Make sure you get lots of calcium, too. BF can otherwise wreak havoc on your teeth. |
yes, definitely! |
I remember reading you actually need more food & more nutrition while breastfeeding than when you were pregnant! I am naturally thin (high metabolism) and was told by a lactation consultant to eat more fat (whole-milk yogurt, etc.) to help milk production. My sister-in-law was able to nurse exclusively but said it required her to eat all the time, even when she wasn't hungry, and she definitely kept taking the prenatal vitamins. |
Most definitely. I made the mistake of stopping and not only did I feel drained (although part of that was sleepless nights of nursing) my body was ragged of nutrients since it pouring all that was left in me to milk production.
Unfortunately, I got my first cavity ever - 30 years of flawless teeth until DD came along. The dentist said it is common in BFing women especially since the body draws calcium from the teeth for the developing baby and milk. |
yes, absolutely! particularly the omega 3's! ask your OB or your ped - s/he will confirm. |
Yes on both. 14:36 is right. Try eating eggs with omega 3s if you don't want to take the supplements. |
Yes - and frankly...i was STARVING the entire time. so not only good prenatals but good food are important. If I didn't eat well my milk supply wasnt good. my baby was a big eater (which was great for taking off the weight) but honestly, i have never been so hungry in my life !!! |
I have a nine month old, and am breastfeeding. I stopped taking my prenatals, and was feelng really run down this past month. I started taking a regular women's multivitamin (the wholefoods brand) this Monday, and have noticed both a huge increase in energy, and in my milk production.
