What pie or dessert will hold up to a 5 hour car ride?

We are traveling for Thanksgiving and I want to bring a dessert. And I guess I would have to make it Tuesday night or early Wednesday.

Pecan pie. Pretty much any pie. Brownies. Cookies. My MIL sometimes makes essentially Christmas cookies but uses leaf and turkey shaped cutters and frosts them with brown or orange icing…the kids like it, and it’s nice to have a pie alternative.

Rum cake/pumpkin rum cake.

I make it and leave it in the Bundt pan. Flip it once I’m there. Make and put the rum glaze frosting in a mason jar. Flip and dress once you are at you destination.

Anything that doesn’t have to be refrigerated will hold up. Grocery stores don’t refrigerate the pumpkin, sweet potato, pecan, apple, cherry pies in the bakery. Cakes will hold up unless you keep your car warm enough to melt frosting. Cookies and bars will be fine. Fruit crisps and crumbles would be fine. Just don’t bring a whipped cream, pudding, custard, yogurt, or ice cream based dessert.

Anything that does not need to be refrigerated or frozen is fine. Almost all desserts you’d commonly find at thanksgiving would travel fine. Avoid custards or similarly delicate desserts.

The custard issue is the problem with homemade pumpkin, pie but yeah if you’re not in a hot car no need to worry about most things that don’t need to stay cold.

I like the pecan pie idea personally.

Glazed pumpkin chocolate chip cookies are a Thanksgiving tradition in our family -- my SIL makes so many we eat them for weeks, so no worries on travelling them.

I would not. You are traveling 5 hours. Leave the real desserts to those local that can make that day. Better tasting and heavier for everyone.

Maybe take an assortment of homemade snacks and cookies. Homemade Chex mix, muddy buddies, fudge, peanut brittle, 7 layer bars, spiced nuts, whatever it is you are good at and like to make.

What? Desserts are better the second day. I never make them the day of.

Maybe you like soggy crust but I find it pretty gross

There are so many options, OP.

Pretty much all pies save maybe like mississippi mud pie or something similar. Everything else should be fine. Also brownies, cookies. Lots of stuff.

You could do a French silk pie, packing the baked crust and filling separately, then assemble upon arrivals
But Apple, pumpkin would also be fine
