Food expectations for a kid’s party?

Anonymous
11am?
1pm?

Pizza and cupcakes?
Sandwiches and cupcakes?
Individual snacks?

Are you ok with your kid eating outside not socially distanced?

Yes if between 11am-1pm some type of lunch food

Kids age? Party activity?

11 party is 11-1 pm, right, and 1 pm, would be 1-3 pm.

In both cases is right around lunch, so would be great to serve some food. Pizza or chicken nuggets or sandwiches - especially for the 11 am party which is at lunch. Otherwise, you’re serving cupcakes for lunch.

For the 1-3 pm, probably sandwiches would be great as well, but take into account how far the venue is from your invitees. If it’s 5-10 minutes, most probably people would have time for brunch or lunch, if it’s farther, then assume that most invitees left there houses at 12:30 so that cuts into their lunch time opportunity.

If I am sending my kid to a party, then I assume they’ll eat there particularly if it’s around lunch time. Otherwise move the party to after lunch e.g. 2-4 pm

Are they in school? Extracurriculars? I’d have no problem with them eating together.

Kids are 7-8 and all in school together. Party is at my house and everyone lives within 5 minutes.

Thank you. I was thinking if at 1, then they would’ve eaten before.

We eat before a 1 pm party. We expect snacks/cake but not pizza and sandwiches.

If you aren't serving lunch food, you should make sure to say so in the invitation so parents know to feed their kids ahead of time. At that age group some kids do eat as late as 1. At least, mine do! Conversely we've also been to parties from 3-5 in which pizza was served, which I find odd because we never eat dinner before 6:30, but whatever. As long as the invitation communicates what food will be served, parents can plan in whatever way suits them.

Oh and yeah no issues with them eating together. Most of the outdoor parties my kids have been to didn't bother with masks at all; those that did, took them off to eat. The kids are at school together all day anyway and eating together unmasked already.

I really think you should avoid 1 pm for a kid party. It’s late for lunch for a kid, but I would assume you are serving lunch if you set a 1 pm time. I also think everyone should make clear on invitations what will happen. “Please join us for cupcakes to celebrate xxx’s birthday!” Join us pizza and cupcakes and gams!

I would never show up to a party that starts at 1 expecting lunch.

I hate 1:00 parties. I have to rush to feed lunch and be out the door to party on time, then kids end up eating the equivalent of a junky lunch#2 at 3:00. They over eat after and appetite for dinner is gone. Then they are hungry again late in the evening after dinner has already been cooked abd cleaned up

Do the party 11-1 and offer lunch or 2-4. As other pps said 1-3 is worse for those having lunch slightly later than 12:00 sharp.

A meal is also a good way to kill time at a party. So 11-1 is good. Outside eating would be fine with me.
