Yes, I know probably not. But, I love butter and this is really insanely inconvenient and makes me sound like those attention grabbers in restaurants and when invited over. I was diagnosed in 2018, some Igg levels were over 200 for diary. I was not in a shock, but would cough my guts out and ok, slightly had a hard time breathing. Dr. said it was attacking my immune system. So I had none since then, and now I am told that if I do eat it I could end up in anaphylactic shock. But, how about these exposure methods they do for kids? What do you think, did anyone do this?
There is a pastry back in my home country with cheese that I dream of eating. All cakes and sweets and that heavy whipped cream? And baguette with butter on it, oh what heaven! Any advice? Thanks for reading. (It is not lactose intolerance, btw, and if FIL tells me one more time that he has had this his whole life, and just eat butter and take a lactaid pill, I might scream. That part is just a vent, sorry.) |
| Traditional Chinese Medicine. Find an acupuncturist who also provides herbs. |
It might not resolve it, but is worth a shot. |
What is this medicine? I will look into it. |
| There is some immunotherapy for allergies a friend is doing. Not sure what it’s called but maybe ask your allergist? I’m so sorry this happened to you, OP! I too love butter and cheese and cream! |
Thank you. I love butter too, and cheese and ice cream, and sour cream! This is the pits! |
It’s an entire medical system. See an acupuncturist. Often they can get to the root of adult onset allergies. |
Thanks. What if I always had it but was not diagnosed and was pumped full of IGG shots and allergy meds as a kid? I hated milk as a kid, and broke out it hives when I drank regular formula, and even back then had to switch to some special formula. Even in my 20s, I would violently throw up when eating a gyro or something like that. I thought it was bcs of onions and peppers(can't eat those) but Dr. said it was likely the yogurt and cheese in these foods. |
| Miyokos cultured European style fake butter is the best butter substitute. I hope that helps a bit. |
| You need a better allergist! Yes, there is oral tolerance building and also immunotherapy for some allergens. I would get an appointment with someone familiar with these options. |
Thanks! Will try it. |
It was gastro that diagnosed me. Allergists, two I saw before being diagnosed, were useless. They all did the same skin tests and told me I didn't have allergies. Not a single allergist mentioned any food testing. In my childhood, they diagnosed me with major environmental allergies and that is when I got igg shots. I was allergic to almost all pollens and flowers and whatever, that was diagnosed when I was 6, I think. I think I need to find a food allergist in the DMV. |
| I know this is an old thread but you keep mentioning IgG and not IgE. And you said that allergists don’t think you have an allergy. Are these reputed board certified allergists? If so, makes me think you don’t have a true IgE-mediated allergy, but rather a rather severe “intolerance” or something related. But even allergy testing can have false negatives, so who knows. I would go to a better allergist and see if you are a candidate for an oral food challenge. If you fail, then there is oral immunotherapy, but it doesn’t always work, and is risky. Side effects also tend to be more prevalent for those treating dairy allergy. |
| I would go to an allergist to discuss. Sadly if it is adult-onset and anaphylactic reaction, your chances are not great, at least according to what my doctor told me. (I had the same thing happen with a different food) |
| Are you sure you aren’t lactose intolerant? You need to see an allergist who can diagnose you properly. My DS had a peanut allergy and he’s been desensitised by an allergist. The allergist also treats dairy allergies. Google “OIT” to find a provider. |
