Finally pg!!! Qs about being released from RE to OB

Anonymous
I've had 2 good betas, and my nurse told me to make an appt with the RE for u/s in the next week or two and then they will release me to the OB. I was so excited about my beta results I didn't think to ask any questions! I'm right around 5wks now.

I thought REs typically kept you until about 10 wks??

Also, if I schedule the u/s sort of early and we can't see the heartbeat, will they let me come back again for another one to try to find the hearbeat before they send me to the OB? If I can only have one u/s, I'll wait until there's a good chance of seeing the h/b, but I'd love to go sooner rather than later to make sure this little one is in there growing.

And after they release me to the OB, when's the next time I'd likely get a u/s there? (I am AMA and not sure what kind of testing we'll be doing.)

Congratulations! I was at Columbia Fertility with Dr. Sacks. Here's what happened. Got two positive betas, with appropriate rise in numbers. Went in for u/s with RE at 6 weeks. Saw the heartbeat, but it was borderline, so Dr. Sacks wanted another one at 8 weeks. But, he said that I could do it with him or with my OB. I had already scheduled an appointment with my OB for 8 weeks, so I did the u/s there. All was good, so I just stuck with my OB. Next u/s was at 11 weeks for genetic testing - we did CVS, but you will get one for the nuchal too. All was still good for us, so my next u/s was 20 weeks. And, that was it. Would have had one at 40 weeks, but I went into labor the day before. My DD is now 18 mos. Good luck!

Congrats!! I was at SGF and had ultrasounds at 7 weeks and 9 weeks. (I purposely waited a little later for the first one because I didn't want to have the experience of not seeing a heartbeat and having to go back. I had a friend go through that and it was awful.) I was released to my OB after the 9-week ultrasound and had my first appointment with the OB at 12 weeks. I am not AMA so I'm not sure how it differs, but I had ultrasounds at 12 weeks (nuchal translucency test) and 20 weeks (the big body scan). Good luck.

Congrats, OP! Wonderful!

I was released after a 7 week u/s with the RE. I was at the Muasher Center and they don't like to do 6 week u/s for the reasons mentioned by PP. Too upsetting if no h/b is seen, etc. Your u/s frequency after this isn't going to have to do with having had fertility treatments, it's now dependent on your personal history and how the pregnancy goes. I was high risk (placenta and cord problems) and had very frequent u/s whereas a 37 year old friend who got preg after IVF had a great pregnancy and had very few.

OP here - thanks!

I made the appt for when I will be 6w5d so praying we'll be able to see the h/b at that time!!

PP, I am at SGF too, but my nurse said they'd release me to the OB after this first u/s. I wonder why . . . .
