Travel Discussion
| I will be starting a new job in mid to late September and would like to get away for a 4-day weekend with my husband sometime from the middle of August to middle of September. Would love to go to an AI in the Caribbean, but I think that it is hurricane season. Any suggestions or recommendations? We have spent only 1 night away from our kids over the past 6 years, so romance and relaxation are priorities! |
| Aruba, it's out of the hurricane belt and you can get some great rates on an all inclusive at that time of year. |
| Aruba is a pretty long flight for a 4-day weekend. I would take a chance and hit up Mexico. |
| You could take your chances with Mexico or someplace else in the Caribbean, or you could do someplace nice around here, like the Clifton Inn (charlottesville) or the Bellmoor (rehoboth). |

If you'd consider a mountain getaway in VA, I highly recommend: http://www.fortlewislodge.com/ |
| I loved our getaway to Deep Creek Lake (Lake Point Inn) but you should book asap as it fills up fast. |
| You could still go to an AI in the Carribbean, just take out travel insurance. We had a lovely time last year at Grand Palladium/Lady Hamilton in Jamaica (outside Montego Bay and the way to Negril). We had a daughter with us, but we would have loved it all the better as a romantic spot. |
| To poster that said Aruba is a long trip, it's actually not longer flight than to Mexico. I would know I am from there, it's ideal. |

This message is partly self-serving.....
I would suggest Vermont at that time of year and probably a place like Stowe. The village is charming, the area is beautiful and there are alot of ammenities including world-class spas. We have home in Stowe in a very private location but with easy access to restaurants, antiquing, hiking, golfing, etc. The link is http://www.vrbo.com/244567. If you are interested just mention you saw this on DCUM and depending on the dates we should be able to work out something for you. We don't have a jacuzzi or anything ...just a beautifully furnished home in an amazing setting. The Trapp Family Resort is amazing too. |

Don't mean to be rude....my husband and I are also looking for a weekend getaway this august/september. All of the suggestions I have seen on this site are outrageously priced ($250+ per night).
Does anyone have any suggestions for a getaway on a budget? |
| Figures. No one on here knows how to have to be on a budget. |
| Try the inn on the blue horizon, vieques. Went a few years ago, real fun, not developed back in the day, do the bioluminus bay cool, off season 8/1-12/14 $130-180 a night |
| Personally I think the Bellmoor, or somewhere else on the Eastern Shore, after Labor Day would be great. |

I know this sounds nuts, but ... Spain. Yes, the flight is long, although Spain is at least pretty far west in Europe. DH and I went to Barcelona for 4 day weekend a few years ago, and it was wonderful. The thing is that you really don't even need to adapt to the time difference, as their culture stays up much later than the US. It's totally normal there to do dinner at 11pm. So we'd sleep in until the afternoon, go out and do some sight-seeing, come back and get ready for dinner and relax a bit, go out for cocktails, then dinner, and then go out after dinner until 4 am or so.
Also, it's fun telling people you're doing a weekend in Barcelona. 8) |
