Hi. Someone just hit my car while I was dropping off my son at the daycare. He gave me a copy of his car insurance. Shall I make the accident claim with my insurance (Geico) or his insurance (United Services Automobile Assn)?
Many thanks in advance for any advice! |
| You claim with your insurance but they will contact his insurance |
| OP you call Geico, you give them the USAA information, and Geico will call USAA to start the process of working it out. |
Many thanks for the advice! |
I never call my insurance when someone else is at fault. Why have a middleman? None of their business. Just go directly to the insurance of the person at fault. They will take care of it |
umm that’s what you pay them for. It’s not them being the middleman. It’s them doing what you pay premiums for them to do. |
| I just went through this/am currently going through this. I did engage my insurance for advice and assistance in filing a claim with the other guy's insurance. Mostly because I didn't know what to do either and appreciated the insight and help from my insurance agent. But if I needed to or already had been through this before, I'd just file a claim with the at-fault party's insurance myself. |
Also, it's in USAA's interest to low ball and deny liability to the greatest extent possible here. |
| I always call the other insurance company. I agree, why get Geico involved. If you open a claim with your company - you will have to pay your deductible (assuming you have one) and wait to be reimbursed by the other carrier. |
