Infertility Support and Discussion
| For those of you who did IVF, how many days were you on your stimulation medications before you went in for egg retrieval? |
| anywhere from 9 to 12 days |
| 9-12 sounds right to me - I don't remember exactly with my two cycles, but I think the first one was closer to 9 and the second one we went just a bit longer, maybe 11 or 12 days. |
| 10-12 days---same as for IUI. |
|
OP here...thank you! Looks like my first cycle is going to be a long one...probably 12 days.
Anyone get a BFP with a longer cycle? I'm already concerned this cycle is going to be a bust! Do longer cycles put too much stress on your ovaries and produce poorer quality eggs? |
| 12 days both times. Good luck. |
ovaries probably get bigger/swollen if you're taking stimming meds for a longer time. but longer cycles do not mean poor quality eggs. a shorter cycle may produce immature eggs at retreival, but at the same time, your RE needs to make sure that your eggs aren't "overcooked" in a longer cycle. |
| I think the key whatever the cycle length ends up being is whether you're being monitored properly. Too short and the eggs will be immature, too long and they're "overcooked". So I wouldn't focus on the stimulation days (12 days is completely normal). |
| OP here...has anyone stimmed for longer than 12 days and gotten a BFP? |
| With my first cycle, I was on stim meds for 9 days, triggered on Day 10 and retrieval on Day 12. With my second cycle, I was on stim meds for 10 days, triggered on Day 11 and retrieval on Day 13. The first cycle, I got more eggs , but that cycle did not work. Second cycle did work. |
