COVID vaccine in schools

With the likelihood vaccinations could be available to kids 5-11 as soon as next week, does anyone have more info on Virginia’s plan to vaccinate in schools? This is not meant to prompt a debate on the matter — just want to know if there really is a plan, as the Governor says, and what it might look like in APS.

Personally I'd be surprised if APS can pull something like that off. Much more likely CVS and Walgreens will do good business, as will the pediatricians.

I doubt there is a plan and, even if there was, reality will look different than the plan. There will be distribution and implementation issues as there was for the adult vaccine. No one knows how it will play out. I cannot imagine schools figuring out how to distribute a vaccine. Also, why would they? They did not distribute vaccines for staff or older children.

Op here. I hear you, but the Governor held a press conference (Duran was there) a few weeks ago saying they were planning to offer it to the younger cohort in schools. That’s what prompted the question.

There is a plan. I know our school contacted the county about putting clinics in schools the minute Pfizer submitted data. They said they are working on it. Our school is planning on running a clinic, but the county won't schedule a date until the cdc signs off.

APS previously ran clinics for the other kids and our school ran a clinic to sign adults up to get initial shots in 2020.

They had vaccine clinics for older kids and they ran flu shot clinics pre covid.

I should clarify. The dept of health runs vaccine clinics at schools. Schools are also in discussions with private pharmacies to run clinics.

Wow. "Mistakes" will be made...
Oops, I thought all parents wanted it on their kids!

Take the shots where the kids are. In school. I'll sign my consent yesterday

This is outrageous.

I feel like some stuff was deleted. What mistakes? What is outrageous?

LCPS can’t even manage mass testing for employees who won’t vaccinate. The infrastructure from the state isn’t there. No way they get this off the ground. You’ll have to take your own kids to get vaccinated.

It’s not mandatory. You’re free to deny healthcare to your kid, don’t worry.

+1 I’ve taken students as young as 4 for Flu shot clinics at APS. I think they could probably even use the same staff that is currently doing testing every week.
