Did taking ASL as a language hurt your kid’s admissions?

My niece wants to switch. She’s staying with us through this year ans probably next. She will have finished French 3 after this year.

Of course not.

Don't overthink this. Your nerves will spread to her.

Thank you! It’s harder than making decisions for my own kids!

Wait - you know that the more prestigious colleges prefer you to have taken every class to the most challenging level possible, right?

So I don't know what grade your niece is in, but if she's in 9th she should definitely do another year of French and preferably go to AP within HS.

You should speak to people at the school, you'll get so many different opinions here and lots of folks encouraging you to let her drop it when it could be important further down the line (as you say, admissions).

It's not as black and white as you think. Some colleges don't accept ASL as meeting their foreign language requirements.

OP just said she will have finished French 3.

OP my daughter did this exact same thing. She hated French. As soon as she finished 3 she said she was switching. She’s in ASL 2 and absolutely loving it!

Glad to hear that. I have one who finished Spanish 3 and wants to take ASL.

My DC also switched. I think a lot did after distance learning and because of bad middle school classes. It’s not ideal but my kid is way happier.
