Are most daycares still closing early?

My daughter started daycare in the summer and almost all of the centers we looked at closed either at 5 or 5:30. The one I found said it would return to closing at 6 in September but now it’s been pushed back to maybe January.

Also- are most still not letting parents go inside during pickup and drop off?

Ours has been at regular hours since it reopened in June 2020 (Bethesda)

Parents not allowed to go in though.

Mine closes at 5:30 but the “regular” closing time was 5:45 prepandemic so it’s basically normal. Not ideal for my schedule sometimes but I like everything else about them. We also don’t go inside at pickup or dropoff but that doesn’t really bother me because I think the doorway transition works well for my kid.

Ours went back to regular hours I believe with the new school year at the end of August. 6:30am-6:30pm This is a center.

I think it may vary in part because of staffing. Our center barely had any turnover before the pandemic, but they have lost of a bunch of teachers, two of the main ones I know got better paying and/or less risky jobs. They've been able to hire new teachers, but I know this is tough across the industry.

Regular hours but parents not allowed inside. That last part is a health dept thing in Maryland I think.

Ours went back to closing at 5:30. Most that we looked at are closing at 6:00 now.

Shortened hours for the same price tag SMH.

Back to regular hours. Parents can enter if masked and submit visitor screening prior to entry.

That expired but I know a lot of places are keeping that in place because it helps that they care run smoother without the constant interruption of parents coming in and out.

Yes, to pay for all of the additional expenses that a pandemic brings about.

... and the increase in wages that a pandemic demands to pay your child's teachers.

Right- ours went UP with shorter hours. So I guess now the rest of us need to demand a shorter workday?

Or get a nanny that works the hours that you need!

Ours opens 45 min later (big deal) and closes 30 min earlier. Same price tag. If I knew it went to teachers salary I'd be more supportive. But it would be nice if they opened even 15 or 30 min earlier.

It goes to making sure your daycare can continue to operate and not shut down.
