Initial CCRM consult tomorrow

Tomorrow we are having our first consultation w dr Owen at CCRM. My OB recommended it after an AMH level of .52. Unfortunately we have Govt insurance (United healthcare GEHA) so the services are probably out of our price range to begin with. I’m assuming they would recommend IVF? Has anyone been there/done that and can give me an idea of what to expect /timeline. Etc. I’ll be CD1 tomorrow. I’m wondering if I could even get CD3 blood work this month. Or will have to wait another month

no idea what they'll recommend- but they should be able to get you in for bloodwork asap.

Look into minimal stim IVF. Better for low AMH women and cheaper too.

I did full stimulated cycle with Dr. Payson. I have secondary infertility. Conceived my first child with no problem at 37 and have a healthy baby girl who is now 3. Starting trying for a second at 40. It’s been over a year with no success. We became naturally pregnant this year, but I miscarried. Dr. Payson recommended IVF given my age and AMH, 0.43. But the IVF didn’t work for me. Only 2 eggs retrieved despite 12 follicles. Only 1 egg fertilized and no embryo. Dr. Payson now recommends donor egg for me. He said we could try mini stim but he was not hopeful it would work and we are mindful of cost. We also have govt insurance so we were 100 percent out of pocket. Due to my age and numbers, i didn’t qualify for their multicycle program. It costs $15,550 for one IVF cycle with CCRM plus 5k to 6k for meds. Since we never had an embryo, we got a 4K refund from CCRM. I like Dr. Payson, but he didn’t offer me any other suggestions besides donor egg. You wait a long time for your appts at CCRM. You also don’t get to speak to the nurses much in person. I felt rushed out of there and then a nurse would call me. I don’t plan on going back to CCRM. We paid more $ for IVF there because of their supposed top quality lab, but didn’t get any results or 1:1 attention. We are doing natural IVF at Dominion next and if that doesn’t work, we are doing donor egg.

I should also add that if your IVF cycle works at CCRM, it is another 5k for the embryo transfer on top of the 15,500 for the cycle and the 5k to 6k for meds so 25k in total for a single cycle.

Op here. Thank you so much for your honest feedback. I don’t know anything about low street / natural cycle. Etc. I will need to do more research I guess

NP here. Thank you so much for sharing this info. I came across this thread literally moments after talking with my husband about scheduling consults for IVF at both Dominion and CCRM w/Dr. Payson. I have been with Dominion for awhile and are generally happy, but only did IUIs with them; now that IVF is our best shot, I was thinking that it may be good to consider CCRM. I am glad to know about the costs, wait for appointments, and minimal communication you had with the nurses in person.

I’m sorry this was your experience but I wanted to chime in that we absolutely loved Dr Payson and in fact followed him from Dominion to CCRM. I agree that it was harder to get to know the nurses but I attribute that more to Covid.

Just a counterpoint. I saw Dr. Owen. We didn’t end up pursuing IVF but between all the diagnostic visits, procedures, and blood draws, I was probably in the office 2 dozen times. I had to wait more than 10 minutes twice. I was also always able to reach Dr.Owen’s nurse usually same day but at most within 24 hours.
