If I sign my preschooler up for dance or gymnastics for toddlers do you think he’ll be the only boy? Before you jump down my throat, he’s not asking for this but I’m considering it as a good winter activity. Thoughts? We’re in fairfax county. Looking at rec center classes.
Definitely not in the gymnastics at that young age.

My sons all took Dance in preschool, though they all played soccer, baseball, basketball too. It was a good experience and forced them to be quiet and pay attention in a way that their other activities didn’t ask.
They are all teens now and have an appreciation for fine arts and my oldest has had some big roles (pre-Covid) in local summer musicals where his dance training definitely helped. None of them are drama kids but they can boogie down at a wedding or school dance. |
He won't be the only boy and both are great for boys and girls to develop strength and coordination.
Check out Ninja Zone, though I wish activities didn’t have to be gendered like this. Also recommend asking your little one whether he’s interested in this. Good luck!
Dance, yes. gymnastics, no.
Op. Thanks sounds like dance would have a greater likelihood. And of course I will ask him but he’s not that reliable about his preferences.
Definitely not gymnastics. In my opinion it is the best sport to build early athleticism and will help him in almost any other sport he does. Keep him going as long as you can.
We love powertots!

Ha! Gymnastics is full of little boys.
I actually took my daughter OUT of a class because she was the only girl and it was too crazy with all the boys. We transferred to another day when it was a more mixed group. |
