waterproof trail runners for 5th grader

Still in "big kid" sizes. Any recommendations (that aren't too expensive for a kid who is growing like a weed)? He's a runner, so definitely needs trail runners vs hiking shoes or boots. Regular sneakers aren't cutting it - too slippery and not waterproof.

Don’t buy waterproof; if water gets in them it just pools inside and can’t drain out. Salomon makes good trail shoes for kids.

+1. Water will get in and it will be miserable. Get a pair that drains and pair them with wool socks

I have these and love. They aren't waterproof, but they are water resistant. They do great on wet muddy trails.
