Visited the school and had a chance to speak in-depth with a group of both current students and alumni. How is it that this school comes off as so... insecure? Two people separately, unprompted, told me confidently that "in just a few years" NEU will be a Top 20 or Top 15 school. And NEU boosters will group it together with other top universities. It makes no sense; is it the most overrated school? Blech. |
Eh ... it's a strong school overshadowed by its neighbors. Not overrated. |
We’re these events organized by the school? You do realize that the schools all have marketing experts who give the school representatives talking points? It’s not a coincidence that they’re all saying the same thing. |
Would suck to go to some nonentity school in that city. |
Nope, not organized by the school. Even if it was, aggressively telling people that you'll soon be a Top 20 school in no time is a weird thing to hawk. |
I’m weirded out by the way you capitalized the E in the middle of the school’s name |
I am not sure what the issue is. It used to be a commuter school and has transformed itself with a unique program that is wildly successful (co-op)
It will always be overshadowed by MIT, Harvard and Tufts, but will be right there with BU, BC, Brandeis etc putting the city of Boston and near the top of "college towns" in the US. It isn't going to be for everybody, and certainly not my kids, but for the right fit, it is a great option. |

It’s a school for strivers, nothing wrong with that. |
It was basically a commuter school when I lived in Boston many years ago. They’ve admitted that they purposefully spent enormous resources to game the rankings and voila, it worked. |
They’ve got an 18% acceptance rate, so they’re doing something right that appeals to students |
Boston is the best college town in America and I’m not sure what else is close unless maybe Austin? |
OT - I'm intrigued by your comparison. I'm not very familiar with Austin other than UT. Are there a good variety of colleges in the city? |
The students there have lived in the shadows of other schools for decades. Their program is growing in both prominence and quality but it's still hard to break old stereotypes, especially in a town like Boston where locals are very set in old habits/ways. |
Are these the only two cities you've lived in? |
