Hi all—
I’ve got no history of blood clots or known clotting issues (although I’ve only been tested for APS), but I’ve had 3 losses (2 early and one at 11 weeks that was tested and came back normal male karyotype). No explanation for my losses. I’ve been on lovenox this pregnancy just because my RE suggested it. She wanted me to stop at 8 weeks, but I asked to continue past 11 weeks and until I saw my MFM (seeing MFM for non loss related pre-existing reasons). Anyways I’m almost 16 weeks and my MFM is recommending I stop because none of my testing suggests I need it. I would still continue baby aspirin. Honestly stopping scares me and is making me incredibly anxious. I just can’t keep on thinking how I’ll feel if I stop and then lose this one too. I am considering pushing back and asking to take it at least until the third trimester in case there is some other unknown clotting factor at play and largely for mental health reasons. Does anyone have any experience stopping lovenox in the second trimester (good or bad)? I’ve also thought about requesting additional tests before stopping but I’m not sure if anything would be accurate while taking lovenox and during pregnancy. Any suggestions? Thanks! |
| I took lovenox during my two successful pregnancies. Like you, no testing indicated a clotting issue but I had multiple losses so my RE had me take it during the first trimester. I stopped at 12 weeks with both and had no issues. Talk to your MFM, but it seems like you only take it in the first trimester even if you do have documented clotting issues. Best of luck, it's nerve wracking. |
| Any update here? I’m in the same situation! |
| Absolutely not, no. I have a rare clotting disorder classed PAI-1. It's not on the normal loss / blood clotting testing panels. I lost babies as far out as 15 weeks before I finally got this diagnosis. |
+1. It’s nerve-wracking. But had no problems ending it. Success with Lovenox and baby aspirin. Take it easy and good luck to you. |
| Ask if there is a risk to the baby if you continue? I would continue for peace of mind if there wasn’t a risk. |
| I recall that it was all concerning, but it ended up fine. There was an explanation that Lovenox could be useful in those very early weeks when every blood vessel is SO tiny that things need to take hold and the tiniest of clots could mess this process up, but by the second trimester things have come along and Lovenox was no longer beneficial. Good luck with it. It’s all a miracle. |
| If there’s no medical downside to taking it throughout your pregnancy (until switching to heparin due to shorter half-life in late pregnancy), I would push for it. I had pregnancy-induced Protein S deficiency and had 2 chemical pregnancies and a 1st trimester loss before this discovery. |
| PP above. I took Lovenox until about 34 weeks ago, then heparin until 6 weeks post partum. |
