| My 4 year old has always struggled with constipation. I feel like I have tried it all, and still, he struggles. I've tried all the foods that are typically recommended, he does not drink milk/eat bananas/eat much bread, and he eats as many fruits and veggies as I can get him to eat (which means not many, but better than nothing). We don't eat white flour products, and I try hard to get whole grains into him. I make coconut milk smoothies fairly often, with mango and other fruits, and coconut water. This works some of the time. I put Miralax powder in his water every day (on recommendation from the doc). He is active and healthy. I just don't know what to do? His poop is really hard, he struggles to pass it, and I fear he is going to start withholding. What do you all do? |

Prunes/prune juice? Magnesium? Prune Juice? Water intake? Have you tracked fiber intake? Do you have a stool for him when he poops? Have you done any suppositories? Has he been to a GI?
|
|
Have you tried the squat toilet? It straightens out the descending colon.
Also red grapes (cut) and dried fruit. Push water too. You can also see a specialist, OP. Continuing Mirilax isn’t good. |

The chick pea pastas are high in fiber. Fiber and water - that’s really all a human can do.

Omg. Coconut is sugar. Plus, you are stuffing a constipated kid with fiber that will just make it all worse.
Hit reset button on his diet. 1) Stop miralax 2) Stop the coconut. Water instead. 3) NO FIBER unless it's fruits and veggies - but zero banana. Gosh fiber will make it worse. Ask doc what happens if you take Metamucil crackers without water (it's not good) 4) Add a probiotic. Whole Foods sells chewable. Or do yogurts. 5) Add salad with dinner. Needs ruffage. 6) Edys Acai Blueberry Popsicles. Has gentle stool softening effect. |
| If he’s eating a lot of carrots that could be the problem. Surprisingly, they’re binding. |
| Try flax seed in his smoothies with fish oil, benefiber, and potentially children's dose of magnesium citrate gummies...and then miralax a few times a week. if the constipation is really bad, our pediatrician suggests the chocolate ex lax bars..can start by giving half a square. if that doesn't work, a full square. |
That is Def Con 1 stomach ache on steroids. Adding gas to constipation, like my worst nightmare. In fact, I'd never serve chickpeas or hummus to anyone with intestinal issues. Owee |
Ruffage? Do you mean roughage? Roughage is fiber, PP, and fiber is roughage. |
I have no clue what you’re talking about. You can easily pass gas while constipated and not all people are effected by legumes. |
+100 . Add magnesium if you need. Also —People confuse fiber and roughage all the time |
Fiber and “ruffage” (actually roughage) are the same thing. Look it up. |
Not when you have gastrointestinal woes. And it's different fiber types. But what do I know, I've just been treated by multiple docs for IBS-D, gastroparesis, and SIBO. |
No, IBS-C. big difference. constipation type! |
stuffing a really constipated kid with beans is abuse. Just no. Poor kid. Sounds like a form of prisoner torture |
