I am absolutely desperate to find my 9th grade daughter a therapist/counselor. She has been the subject of intense girl bullying at her school and we are in the midst of finding her a new school. But she has developed depression and has started pulling out her hair. We have gone to the school several times over the years but enough is just enough.
I have been calling and calling for months to find someone, anyone, that she can see but absolutely no one has any availability. I will self pay so the person doesn't need to be on my insurance. My husband and I are here for her, support her, love her, and are trying to do everything we can but we really think she may need more professional guidance and help on her feelings. I don't need someone to tell her how to handle bullies (that would be great though) but I am more worried about her self harming and getting into a deep depression over this situation. Removing her from the school is one step, but I also really feel having a professional help her navigate how she feels about herself is also important. Does anyone have any recs? We are in northern Virginia but will travel to near in DC/Maryland. Thank you. |
My child sees a therapist at Choice Clinical in College Park, MD. Their therapist is only doing telehealth appointments right now. https://www.choiceclinical.com/our-clinicians/ |
| I am so sorry your daughter is going through this. |
| I'm so sorry. I pray you find her a new school soon. |
| I don't think you can do teletherapy across state lines anymore, but worth checking |
| So sorry, OP. You are doing the right thing by changing schools for her. I was bullied from 5th through 8th grade and still carry some confidence issues with me in my late 30s. You are right to get her help and correct her views of herself so she doesn’t see herself through the eyes of her bullies. |

It's not one therapist who is going to help. She needs group therapy, probably a neuropsych to understand the big picture and tiny details. There's a woman in MD/DC who runs group therapy called peer 2 peer or something like that. Was out of Hera Coworking Space on the weekends. whatever her talents and interests are, get her involved in those to build up her confidence and find like-minded friends. Hugs.

I'm really sorry your family, especially your DD, is going through this. My DD sees (tele-therapy) a therapist at Mt. Vernon Family Therapy in the Alexandria section of FFX County. I really like the practice. When I was looking for a counselor for her, they were only one of two groups that called me back.

Start calling the parents and make the bullying stop. Normally I would say you calling will make it worse but in this case if your daughters this bad it sounds like it can’t get worse. You start calling the parents calling the school and threaten to sue them. |
