What are some honors colleges/programs to look into?

Just starting looking into options for a junior. I keep reading that honors programs are something to look at? Where do we start? Is there a list or does almost every large college have a program. Just saw a post on GMU honors college, would never have thought to look into something like that. I know U Maryland has something like this.

Almost all colleges have that -you can try to find a school that is more of a safety or target and get into the honors program, which sometimes have a lot of benefits, like early class registration, special seminars, and some live together and create a smaller environment.

+1 Pretty much any larger public school has an honors program or honors college. The main thing to look at is what it offers or requires. Some have special class sections and dedicated housing. Some might not offer much more than advanced registration and special events.

A friend's son just completed his four years in the GMU Honors. Great experience. Now off to a T-14 law school

If you have the stats for an honors college, maybe you can just go to a selective school.

IME the honors college students are typically kids who have the stats for the more selective school but not the budget. So, they get a good education and experience through the public U honors college and go on to a good life without massive debt. Good option for many.

My DD is in the Scholars program at UMD. It’s really not much of a program and more of a marketing ploy. You get a quiet dorm and smaller discussion sections first semester of college. You also get a certificate when you graduate but that’s it.
