| Anyone have a recommendation for a pre college program for a current 9th or 10th grader that has advanced/interesting computer science courses? (We know that they don't help with admissions and that's not our goal.) |
What school are you in? Madison at FCPS offers 4+ cs classes. There’s also Marshall academy for networking etc. also there is contests and many extra curricular activities. Two of my kids could program Java and python out of HS. At min take AP computer science. My sr is in a class above that also. |
what is the class above AP CS A? |
Comp Sci AB. Used to be AP but CollegeBoard dropped it because not enough kids took the test. Still weighted as an AP though. |
She goes to a small private school that doesn't offer much, but she's gone far in code academy/teaching herself. She's already beyond AP CS and pretty advanced in java and python. We're looking for a residential camp experience, but for high school students. |
| I looked at Carleton College for my son but ultimately decided it wasn't worth the $$. He was better off just coding his own projects all.summer. |
| Math, Math, Math. Try to get some courses at community college or online high schools. You can at least add STATs to your math sequence. Linear Algebra or Concrete Math would be great! |

Johns Hopkins?
Their CTY (center for talented youth) program is popular and they also have a pre college program. Your child could look into both. Do cty during the school year and the pre college in the summer or do cry in the summer |
